I won something?! LUSH Celestial Facial Moisturizer from Gummy Vision

I am not a person who can rely on luck. Don’t get me wrong, I am lucky to be surrounded by a wonderful family and people I love. But I am never lucky when it comes to games of chance. I don’t win contests, draws, or lotteries – it’s almost as if the odds are always tipped against me, no matter how you calculate the actual probability.

Imagine my surprise when I got a message from Gummy Vision that I had won something from her 2013 Holiday Giveaway!

Review: Yesstyle.ca Bags Part 1 of 2

I wrote a review for yesstyle.ca two years ago when I first ordered off the website because I couldn’t find any reviews commenting on how trustworthy it was. Since then, I’ve made quite a few orders and I dug up some pictures I had taken of a bag haul from YesStyle from last year. I got 4 in total: 2 bags that were more casual and 2 that were more sophisticated.

This post will focus on the two casual bags that I bought from YesStyle.ca

Current Canadian Beauty Boxes

Getting a mystery package in the mail induces a certain excitement that nothing else can bring. This also explains my love for online shopping.

MailTimeEDIT3

I couldn’t find a picture accurately portraying my love for packages. So I made my own.

Back in February of 2012, I wrote a blog post about the Canadian beauty boxes that were available. At the time, we started seeing a lot of Birchbox posts from US bloggers. The beauty boxes offered in Canada were Loose Button’s Luxe Box, Topbox, Glymm, and Glossybox.

Typically, beauty boxes are regular subscriptions where the company will send you a box with deluxe beauty samples for a set price. Sometimes full-sized products are included. Generally, you would fill out a beauty questionnaire and the samples in your box are chosen to cater to you. You would not know what the samples are until you receive your box. Some companies will allow you to choose certain products to include in your box, or choose a limited offer box with a certain brand or theme.

PMall Haul and Review: The Face Shop, Holika Holika, and TonyMoly

Last week I went to Pacific Mall, an Asian mall in Toronto that sells a lot of Asian merchandise that you can’t quite find anywhere else in the city. Because it’s a very high-traffic mall, I generally don’t like to go there very often. But of course, that was before I learned that they opened several Korean beauty brand retail stores. I went on a little morning shopping spree before the masses started swarming in the area for some delicious Asian food.

I had already known that there was a Holika Holika store at Pacific Mall for a few years now because I had bought a BB cream there, but when I learned that The Face Shop and TonyMoly had opened as well, I just had to go take a look. I was looking for a new cleanser and moisturizer anyway.

OOTD and FOTD for the Cold Weather

It’s been below 0°C (or 32°F for all you other folks) all day today and I always have trouble dressing for cold weather. I usually end up in my skinny Bootlegger jeans and a t-shirt under a nice warm hoodie. I’m clearly deviating from the norm today. There’s no natural light today and I have no place in the house suitable for a photo shoot. So, I apologize in advance for my distracting Pokemon poster (yes, I did line up and watch the movie in theatres back in ’99 and got some exclusive Pokemon cards out of it).

After a long absence

I'm back

I know it’s been over a year since I last posted and I feel I need to explain myself. The major reason behind my absence was several conflicts I had, which are somewhat resolved – at least for the present. During my absence, I continued to read blogs, but I kept a low profile. I never stopped enjoying what I read and I missed the blogging community. I’m really excited about a recent haul, and that has given the final push for me to come back to the blogosphere.

A little background on what has happened in the interim:

  1. I am no longer subscribed to any beauty boxes.
  2. I have moved back home, where it is impossible to find good lighting to take pictures. This was another reason why I stopped blogging – none of the pictures were true to colour and my room is darker as a windowless room. Incandescent desk lamps do not do justice to most of the things I want to take pictures of.
  3. I have gained a few pounds since moving back home, where my parents insisted I look too skinny and frail. I now have less control over what I eat. *shakes fist*
  4. I highlighted my hair red, the highlights have faded bronze and grown out, and I’ve grown out my bangs.
  5. I still love shopping, as much as I ever did.
  6. I love the new Pokemon X game. You can go shopping for outfits for yourself. How awesome is that?

So, my first order of business is to update some of my posts – it seems that the world has changed drastically over the past year. Then I can get started on that haul post. I can’t wait!

That awkward moment after you haven’t seen each other in too long

Like when you run into an old acquaintance at the grocery store after work, frazzled from a long day, trying to rush so that you could get home and prepare dinner while thinking about the forty other deadlines clamouring for your attention. You distractedly try to carry on a conversation, while being painfully aware how obvious it is that you’re not quite sure how to conduct yourself after such a long separation.

That is how I feel about blogging right now. And how I have been feeling about it for a while. So now the question is: how do I re-enter the blogosphere gracefully?

My last post lamented my lack of blogging when I worked full time over the summer. Then I had went on vacation to Hong Kong and upon my return, had to prepare for school. I had figured that I’d be able to blog during school as I had previously, but it turns out I had severely underestimated the difficulty and the workload.

I do want to thank everyone for their kind inquiries regarding my absence. Each put a smile on my face. And I assure you that I hold you close at heart. In fact, sometimes I find myself commenting on the weather in Vancouver, the lack of Sephoras in Belgium, the lackluster malls in Ottawa, the shopping in India, cosmetics available in Singapore, and so on and so forth. And my friends look at me oddly and wonder how I know these things.

I can guarantee nothing but my promise to try to keep up. There is so much I want to say. If only I could type as fast as I think! It would sure help with school. Wouldn’t we all have so much more time?

Blogging is not easy. It really isn’t.

I just finished my first week at my summer job, starting the second, and I came to several devastating realizations.

1. I have no life.

Seriously. I’ve got work 8:00-4:00, but I have to travel over an hour each way. This means I have to get up at 6 am and go to bed by 11 pm to be able to do it all over again the next day. By the time I get home it’s around 5:30, which gives me enough time to help with dinner, eat dinner, clean up after dinner, and shower before going to bed. If I’m playing badminton, I would head out right after dinner, jump in the shower afterward, and hope that I can get up the next morning. I don’t have energy to think, let alone blog. Any time I have left over is inevitably filled by family obligations and social calls.

I believe a much-deserved shoutout should be given to all you bloggers who work full time jobs and yet are still able to blog each day, or quite regularly at the very least. I have no idea how you do it, but my respect for you all has been elevated to new heights.

2. Not only can I not blog, but I can’t read blogs either.

I have been deprived of the time and energy to blog, so I thought that I would at least be able to browse your blogs when I have off-time at work. I work fast, and so have more free time than most. I really didn’t think it would be appropriate to blog at work, but I thought I could at least enjoy my daily blog reading. But no. My organization has blocked access to all personalized web content (blogs most definitely included). Which means I can’t even pass the time by catching up on everyone – no WordPress sites work. I am not a happy camper.

3. I am still not unpacked.

My goal had been to completely clean out my room and unpack everything I’d brought home in the free week I had between exams ending and work beginning. All I have managed thus far is unpacking some of my clothes and reorganizing my dressers so that I have somewhere to put the unpacked clothes. I’d cleared off my desk (by stacking everything into several mountains in a corner), but it’s already beginning to lose visible surface area again. That was a huge fail.

4. My summer night class starts this week.

I can expect time to be in even shorter supply when classes start. I think this pretty much speaks for itself.

5. I have gained weight since coming home.

Why must food in Toronto be so tasty and inexpensive?!

Banishing post-Titanic puffy eyes

Firstly, I have been sorely missing out on blogging and reading blogs. Despite how ridiculously overloaded I am, I end each day lamenting about my lack of blogging 😦 I just had to squeeze in this quick post, as I don’t know when I’ll have time to make another for the next few days as well.

Now. I know I’m a little late to the party. Okay, a lot late – 15 years late. But as 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the tragedy of Titanic with a re-introduction into the theatres of the movie in 3D, I was reminded of the fact that I still hadn’t yet watched Titanic at all. I was never privy to the quotes and quips my classmates made from the movie – a decade ago.

Well, at long last, I finally watched the movie a few days ago for the first time. And I bawled hysterically. I need me a Jack Dawson.

Jack as he watches Rose descend in a life boat, assuring her that he will be fine whilst she is borne to relative safety.
