PMall Haul and Review: The Face Shop, Holika Holika, and TonyMoly

Last week I went to Pacific Mall, an Asian mall in Toronto that sells a lot of Asian merchandise that you can’t quite find anywhere else in the city. Because it’s a very high-traffic mall, I generally don’t like to go there very often. But of course, that was before I learned that they opened several Korean beauty brand retail stores. I went on a little morning shopping spree before the masses started swarming in the area for some delicious Asian food.

I had already known that there was a Holika Holika store at Pacific Mall for a few years now because I had bought a BB cream there, but when I learned that The Face Shop and TonyMoly had opened as well, I just had to go take a look. I was looking for a new cleanser and moisturizer anyway.

COSME-DE.COM mini haul and review

Firstly, blogging is lagging behind as I struggle to keep up with the influx of thesis demands and lack of sleep 😦 I am thoroughly sick of working, though, and I can’t stop obsessing over (my lack of) blogging. Without further ado, let’s get down to business so I can finish this and concentrate on my work 😛

Thanks to a recommendation by Lil Miss Shanghai, I made my first order from COSME-DE.COM on the 19th. The order was dispatched the very next day on the 20th. Although the estimated delivery date was stated as March 29th – April 9th, I got my package yesterday on the 26th. Considering that COSME-DE is based in Hong Kong and my package was an international delivery, I am duly impressed by the delivery speed!

Here’s my mini haul:

Skin 79 Lovely Girl BB Cream and Imju Dejavu Fiberwig Paint-On False Lashes Extra Long Mascara

I wonder if you’re wondering why I made such a small international purchase. Most of my international hauls are quite a bit more substantial than a measly total of 2 items. (That reminds me, I haven’t posted any of my YesStyle hauls >__< despite my review)

Skin79 VIP Gold Collection Super Plus BB Cream Review

The review I’ve put off for far too long: Skin79’s VIP Gold Collection Super Plus BB Cream.

The BB is supposed to stand for blemish balm, but I have no idea why Skin79 insists on calling their BB creams “Beblesh Balm”. I thought it was pretty funny at first, as a very typical spelling mistake that I often see on Asian products. So techinically, this is Skin79’s VIP Gold Collection Super+ Beblesh Balm.

LUSH haul, NARS sample, and… I need fashion advice!

I am a LUSH virgin. Ever since I first came across this store way back in grade school, I’ve always had an aversion to it. The intermingling smells were overwhelming, and all the slabs of soap in the windows looked like… food. Or rather, mouldy cake. Learning that everything was freshly handmade with no preservatives made my presumptions worse – if the stuff is made out of food, doesn’t that mean it will mould even faster?

Inspired by angelandthings‘ review on Buffy, I decided to check out the LUSH website for myself. I’ll admit, some of their stuff was intriguing. In particular, the fresh face masks had me lusting to get my hands on them, especially since I have sensitive skin and their products claim to be good for sensitivity, due to their lack of preservatives.

LUSH haul #1:

What is a BB cream?

BB cream has been around for quite a while now, and a lot of people are more familiar with it, especially since it started to move its way into the American market. I first learned of it last year and did all this research already (I’m too thorough for my own good), but since I’m planning on doing some BB cream reviews soon, I figured I’d better have this up beforehand just in case.

BB cream stands for blemish balm cream. It was originally a dermatologist-prescribed ointment intended for laser skin surgery patients. Formulated in Germany with soothing, healing, and skin-regenerative properties, South Korean actresses soon picked them up for use and the Korean market saw a great potential, modifying it to be an all-around beauty product.

A few of the Asian brand BB creams shown here: Missha, Skin79, L’egere, Hanskin, Skinfood. Available in select Canadian Asian stores and via online shopping and international shipping.

yesstyle.ca Review

I first found out about YesStyle when I was browsing the internet for BB creams  a month ago. One of the searches popped YesStyle’s inventory up. Apparently YesStyle is a pretty popular website for ordering things online, especially from Asia. Their product list includes everything from clothes and shoes to makeup and skincare, complete with accessories and sections for men as well. The brands are sourced from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, to name a few.

So why are there no reviews on its credibility?!

I was looking for reviews on YesStyle and whether or not it was reputable enough to trust, as I am always hesitant about making purchases online. To my surprise, despite its apparent popularity, there were no reviews generated by the search engine! I had to resort to searching up “yesstyle.com” on YouTube, which generated videos of people showing off their hauls. So I supposed that lent credibility to the website.

So I set my jaw and placed an order on Friday, October 7th. All the items in my basket were labeled as ready for shipping in 1-2 days. Lo and behold, the order was shipped out on October 11th, the Tuesday after a long weekend. I was surprised that I received my order just over a week later on Thursday, October 20th.
