"Why then the world's mine oyster, which I with sword will open."

Blogging is not easy. It really isn’t.

I just finished my first week at my summer job, starting the second, and I came to several devastating realizations.

1. I have no life.

Seriously. I’ve got work 8:00-4:00, but I have to travel over an hour each way. This means I have to get up at 6 am and go to bed by 11 pm to be able to do it all over again the next day. By the time I get home it’s around 5:30, which gives me enough time to help with dinner, eat dinner, clean up after dinner, and shower before going to bed. If I’m playing badminton, I would head out right after dinner, jump in the shower afterward, and hope that I can get up the next morning. I don’t have energy to think, let alone blog. Any time I have left over is inevitably filled by family obligations and social calls.

I believe a much-deserved shoutout should be given to all you bloggers who work full time jobs and yet are still able to blog each day, or quite regularly at the very least. I have no idea how you do it, but my respect for you all has been elevated to new heights.

2. Not only can I not blog, but I can’t read blogs either.Β

I have been deprived of the time and energy to blog, so I thought that I would at least be able to browse your blogs when I have off-time at work. I work fast, and so have more free time than most. I really didn’t think it would be appropriate to blog at work, but I thought I could at least enjoy my daily blog reading. But no. My organization has blocked access to all personalized web content (blogs most definitely included). Which means I can’t even pass the time by catching up on everyone – no WordPress sites work. I am not a happy camper.

3. I am still not unpacked.Β

My goal had been to completely clean out my room and unpack everything I’d brought home in the free week I had between exams ending and work beginning. All I have managed thus far is unpacking some of my clothes and reorganizing my dressers so that I have somewhere to put the unpacked clothes. I’d cleared off my desk (by stacking everything into several mountains in a corner), but it’s already beginning to lose visible surface area again. That was a huge fail.

4. My summer night class starts this week.Β

I can expect time to be in even shorter supply when classes start. I think this pretty much speaks for itself.

5. I have gained weight since coming home.

Why must food in Toronto be so tasty and inexpensive?!

  1. You are forgiven and can’t wait for the next frantic installment. We can wait.

    • I think what I should just start doing is drafting copies while I’m at work and hopefully just transfer and edit when I get home, inserting images. Thank you for the continued support!

  2. awww poor thing! I feel ur pain! work sucks!

  3. I was wondering where you were! I know how busy life is. Good luck in your summer classes!!

I should clear my desk too and I didn’t even move! At least you made progress.

    • Yeah, I have less time to myself than I did at school 😦 read:zero extra time…! I cleared off my desk, but I got a whole bunch of textbooks from a friend so now it’s all full again. I’m terrible at finding spare time!

  4. Ahh I had been wondering what happened to you – miss you my dear!

I work full time, but my commute is only 25 minutes each way, so already I have an extra hour than you in the day. And although I don’t blog at work, it isn’t blocked so I am able to do a bit of reading on my favourite blogs while at the office.

Don’t worry, you will find a groove, I promise.

    • Seriously, you are amazing! I can’t imagine it’s easier for you even with an extra hour, since you probably have a house to mind and meal preparations just the same. I just walk around like a zombie all day. Can’t do anything during the commute either, since I’m underground on the subway and there definitely isn’t any signal in the subways in Canada…!

      • I have no doubt you will find a groove and find time for blogging. I’ve been awful though…Diablo III came out yesterday and we’ve been house shopping, so I haven’t blogged in days. I need to catch up too!! So don’t feel bad!

      • Omg fellow girl who loves her makeup AND video games?! I played Diablo 3 when it came out, too! Not that I’ve had time since, but at least I finished the game πŸ™‚ I played wizard haha how about you?

      • Hi! So nice to hear from you!! I was a witch doctor in Diablo 3. I got tired of it after the first time through though and stopped playing pretty early into Nightmare mode. I’m currently addicted to League of Legends though – tell me you play?!?!?!

      • Me too, after I beat Diablo the first time, it got tedious to have to play the same game again. Tedious even to have to play it in different characters. I’m sure I’ll turn back to it whenever I feel the need for some stress relief, though! Can’t beat slaying monsters when I’m frustrated πŸ˜›

No, I don’t play LoL, but my boyfriend does, and so do many of my friends. I think I’d fail school if I started, given my tendency to immerse myself completely. I’m so glad D3 was out during the summer so I could get it out of my system!

  5. Haha don’t worry, I’m kinda on the same boat. I commute almost 2 hours each day and work a full time job AND take care of a husband, my cat, and meet the demands of my family. ;P lol I just find that blogging is one of the ways where I can unwind have have some time to myself!!! Not to mention all the great beauty products I get to try. πŸ™‚ Don’t be too hard on yourself! It’ll all happen when it’s supposed to! πŸ™‚

    • Wow, that’s amazing! How do you keep up with it all? Blogging is very satisfactory for me too, and I love reading others’ work as well, but I can barely find the time to sleep 😦 I assumed regular work hours would be easier to deal with than school schedules… Apparently not for me!

  6. Sigh… work sucks! Also, I am still living from my suitcase, even though I’ve been home for a while LOL I swear it’s driving my mom nuts.

    • But you have so much time! I can imagine that your mom would be annoyed haha but whatever, at least you take care of your own things! Not like she needs to clean up after you anyway if everything’s in your suitcase πŸ˜›

  7. welcome back to toronto! and finally a blogpost πŸ˜›
don’t worry – I work an office job too and in the beginning I felt like i had no life! especially because I was doing part-time uni courses too. you’ll get the hang of it soon πŸ™‚
    Goodluck with everything!!!

    • I know, I’m sorry 😦 I’m taking part-time studies, too – it’s definitely not easy to pull off at all. How did you manage to shift everything enough to find time for yourself?

      • i have no idea… i just kind of got used to it! and now i just work my office job and my part time jewelry job and no more school! πŸ™‚

  8. Aww, I understand, (although I love my work more than anything else) πŸ˜› But yeah, i feel it.

  9. You should take a spa day! It can be pretty rejuvenating, even if its something small you do at home! I know exactly how you feel though, I have work 7a-530p, blogging almost daily sometime 2X day and also Chinese school on Saturdays.. thank goodness the semester is almost over I’m exhausted. Its like a huge ordeal just to get my weekly laundry done! lol. Yoga helps energy levels though I def. recommend it!

    • WOW, 7:00-5:30?! That’s ridiculous! How can you work over 10 hours a day and still have time for commuting, eating, sleeping, school, AND blogging? You are amazing. And you still have time for laundry and yoga. I feel very incapable now, haha. I’ve been wanting to take up yoga for the past year or two, but I’ve never gotten around to it because of lack of time as well as not being sure where to start. And of course, I feel like I may look silly doing yoga πŸ˜›

      • I sleep very little! lol. No not amazing, just tired a lot of the time, but working out and eating right helps a lot in how I feel day to day! Everything is very scheduled and sometimes most tasks wait for the weekend. You should see my bf – he works 30 hrs a week, 20 hrs of school + 10 hrs. hw (animation student), and you know, commuting 30 min each way . Everyone looks silly doing yoga except the guru people – they look all abnormally graceful hahah . Be sure to take your vitamins and get rest though!

      • Its difficult to stay active and eat right if you don’t even have time to sleep 😦 thanks for your encouragement!

      • agreed! work hard and get sleep! x

  10. Ahh! I know what you mean. My boyfriend thinks its crazy that the first thing I do when I get home is get my laptop all set up, take a ton of photos about everything and spend time posting about everything. He says I should be that dedicated towards other areas of my life, but then an hour later he’ll go do the same thing on his car forums. LOL. Luckily my school is just coming to an end in the next week but I think I’ll be working more to compensate for that time. Your commute seems long, is the traffic bad?

    • Haha it’s never crazy when you’re doing it yourself for things you like! πŸ˜‰ The commute involves 3 transfers between 4 different transportation lines, so waiting for each transfer will suck up time. And the traffic in Toronto is ridiculous, it’s very inefficient and seems like there’s rush hour EVERY hour.

  11. Aww!! That really sucks! I work and go to school and sometimes I find it hard to keep up with my blog. But fortunately, I’m still able read blogs at least. I think it’s really lame your job blocked everything. =\

    • Yeah, I can’t read any personalized websites – blogs included! Funny thing is, they still allow Facebook… which doesn’t make any sense to me whatsoever. I’m positive that the potential of Facebook being a distraction is much higher. No way that the higher-ups don’t know what Facebook is!

  12. No worries, we’ve all got stuff… I only started blogging in April, and already don’t seem to have the time to keep it up. Good luck with all that you’ve got going on!

  13. What a cruel organization – to block all blogs! πŸ™‚ Hope you’re schedule gets easier as you get adjusted to it – I’ve missed seeing your posts! completely understand though – I always feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day for the things I actually want to do!

  14. agreed, very hard to blog. it literally takes me an hour to write an entry which is crazy. but I love what I do and ready all of your posts on Monday’s inspires me to keep it going. πŸ™‚

  15. This is such a late response since I just found time to read blogs too and I have to definitely say– I feel for you. I’ve been feeling guilty lately that I’ve been leaving my blog alone and not really reading the ones I follow.

I’ve just been trying to live life a little better & somewhere along the way, I got lazy and tired. LOL.

But gosh, I’ve really missed seeing your cat Miko in blog posts! LOL. That cute little kitty brightened up my late night (if… that can even make..sense…? LOL) Anyhow, I hope you catch up with time! There’s just never enough of it!!! πŸ˜₯

    • I feel like life is always a race against time! I’m sorry for my huge delay too haha but I’m going to try to do better. We’re all busy, but I think it’s just nice to touch base once in a while with everyone πŸ™‚

  16. I am just checking in with you! I hope you are well! πŸ˜€

    • Thank you, Christen, I really appreciate it! I find myself thinking of you guys every so often and wonder what I’ve been missing in the blogosphere. I am alive and well though haha πŸ™‚

  17. You’ve vanished again 😦

  18. Pace yourself and do it bit by bit πŸ™‚ I have the same problem too! Good luck!

  19. Check out JewelBox!! They made handmade custom jewelry made just for you and mail it right to your door! πŸ™‚ http://jewelboxblog.wordpress.com

  20. I know this is an old blog post. But I can’t read/view a lot of blog at work either, but I subscribe to them via RSS feed and then view them under my e-amil Gmail account under the “READER” tab. Maybe that can work? But then you can’t leave comments though, that way..

    • I still haven’t figured out what RSS is or how it works 😦 fortunately, my phone is now satisfactorily compatible with the WordPress app, so I’ll have to try to make do with it!
