First beauty swap: Canada to US with blissno9

I finally received my package from blissno9 a few days ago from our international beauty swap – she’d received hers a week before I did 😦 Seems like Canadian customs takes a little bit longer to process.

In all honesty, this had to be my favourite part of the package – I loved that blissno9 personalized the package by including a small card and having it specifically addressed. It made it much more significant and I really appreciated the extra thought. This was my first beauty swap, but I could stand to remember to add these little touches, too!

Along with a card, blissno9 also included a product list with short descriptions – another thing I really appreciated and would definitely add in the future. I had actually thought about making one, but I had time restraints because I had a lot of work to do while I was trying to prepare my package 😦

I grouped the items so that it had some semblance of organization (because we all know I like ordering things, right? :P) into a few pictures based on product… shape, I guess. Haha πŸ˜›

Pots (left to right): Hard Candy Welcome Matte mattifying powder; Custom Blend TKB Pigments in Lavender and Apricot; NYX Blush in Pinched; Laura Mercier Sateen Eye Colour in Sandstone.

I believe this is the first mattifying powder I’ve ever had – what a perfect opportunity to try it out!

Tubes (left to right): NYX Ultra Pearl Mania in Oro Pearl (teehee, lots of pearls :)); Wet n Wild Mega Last Matte Lipstick in Think Pink; Naturally Diva Lemon Essential Oil; Sula Paint & Peel nail polish in Blush; Sinful Colors nail polish in Easy Going.

I have actually only come across lemon fragrance oils and have never been able to find the essential oil. I’m going to have to do some research about what the benefits of lemon essential oil are…!

Sticks (top to bottom): Eco Tools eyeshadow brush; Ulta Eye Crayon in Birthday Girl; Wet n Wild Color Icon brow & eyeliner in Mink Brown; Hello Kitty mini emery board; pencil.

I’ve seen Eco Tools brushes once or twice (they’re a rarity… I think?) but have never had the courage to pick them up. But then again, I haven’t bought any other brushes in a long time, either πŸ˜› since I have a few packs of E.L.F. brushes at home still. This brush feels super soft though, and I can’t wait to use it! Well, as soon as I get around to cleaning my brushes…

Skin (left to right): L’Oreal Dermo-Expertise Active Daily Moisture Lotion with SPF 15; Freeman Facial Enzym Pineapple Mask sample pack; Lancome High Resolution 3x sample.

I’ve been wondering about the Freeman masks and pineapple would be a great way to start… mm… pineapples… *distracted*

Miscellaneous (left to right): Rilakkuma memo pad; Star Gems nail wheel; packet of samples; Ferrero Rocher.

Thank you blissno9 for putting so much time into my package πŸ™‚ By the way, good guess: Ferrero Rocher is my favourite!

This was definitely a fun experience – it’s like opening a Beauty Box, only a lot more so. I can’t wait to try some of these, as there are some new brands here I haven’t seen before. I probably won’t be able to use all of this and may have to give some away (I’m sure my sister already has her eye on that memo pad, no question!) but I have to say that I am impressed with what blissno9 managed to get for my package. I guess things are just more expensive in Canada, even before taxes 😦

I want to thank blissno9 for my first beauty swap experience and for all the effort she put in! I have learned a lot from her and how far a little personalization goes. The card and the product list were wonderful and very considerate – I wish I had included one too! Next time πŸ™‚

I didn’t take a picture of what I’d sent her, but I made a collage of the items I found on their respective websites. I tried to choose brands that wouldn’t be easily available in the US. It was a lot of fun shopping for her, but admittedly it was difficult to choose between items and brands because it was so hard to stay within budget! I actually ended up going over, and I didn’t even get everything I wanted to…!

Marcelle and Annabelle are sister Canadian companies based in Montreal, Quebec. Essence was newly launched in Canada in March 2012. GOSH Cosmetics is a Denmark-based company and Bourjois, judging by the packaging and product name, I’d have to say is from France. Yves Rocher also originated in France and centers their brand around the concept of Botanical Beauty. Lastly, Joe Fresh was designed for Canadian food distributor Loblaw.

The only product I have tried is Annabelle’s Mineral Pigment Dust, albeit in Myth, a greyish taupe. I have tried some of Marcelle’s skincare products as well as a Joe Fresh nail polish. I sincerely look forward to blissno9’s reviews of all the others, as they are new to me too!

  2. Everything looks so fun!!

  3. OOOO Gosh look at the fantastic package! Sending things in the US is ALWAYS faster than receiving things from the US, so don’t blame it on Canadian customs! Can’t wait to see the looks you do with all the goodies!

    • I didn’t know that about US post – I just know that customs times in Canada are widely varied and not predictable at all! I have trouble deciding where to start… πŸ˜›

    • It is lots of fun! I think the most difficult part is trying to keep yourself from overspending πŸ™‚ It’s nice to see what kinds of things you don’t have available locally.

  7. Fantastic swap! I love doing blogger swaps. It’s so much fun getting things that you normally don’t have access to πŸ™‚
