Mini-haul and Applebee’s

Picked up some goodies from the MAC counter in The Bay and from the cosmetics section in Walmart. This is my first in-store MAC purchase that’s actually for me. I’ve went into MAC stores before (usually with my MAC-obsessed friends – I’m looking at you, angelandthings) mostly to just look around. The things I buy are usually gifts for friends. But this time was just for me πŸ™‚

From left to right:

  1. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in 060 Gumdrop
  2. MAC Paint in Bare Canvas sample
  3. MAC Fluidline in Added Goodness

I caved – everyone’s been raving so much about Revlon’s lip butter that I picked one up today at Walmart. I wanted to get Peach Parfait, which looked like a colour I’d actually wear without feeling too self conscious (I never wear lip colour – it’s intimidating!). They were out of those, though. Then there was Creme Brulee, which seemed a neutral enough colour as well. Still too much colour for my everyday wear. I’m still taking baby steps πŸ™‚ So I settled for Gumdrop, a nice light lilac.

Flash makes the image much more true-to-colour. It looked sheer enough when I swatched it in Walmart on my hand. I hope these really are as moisturizing as everyone claims. My lips are always dry – even in the summertime, and of course, much worse in the wintertime. Another reason why I never wear lip colours – they accentuate my dry lips. Most of the time I settle for a balm. I also have a terrible habit of chewing on my lips. I had to stop myself just now when I realized I was doing it while blogging πŸ˜›

I’ve always wanted to try MAC’s Fluidline. I’m obsessed with finding an eyeliner that won’t transfer on me. No matter how well eye products work for the rest of the population, nothing ever stays on for me. Ever. And I’ve tried all the top recommended primers, shadows, and liners.

I already had a lot of black liners to work through though, so I’ve never felt too compelled to get yet another one from MAC. But after Sunny showed off her Added Goodness Fluidline, I wanted one too! And apparently this was limited edition. So since I had the chance, I inquired about it today. Lucky me, they only had 2 left! Looking back on it, maybe I should’ve grabbed both. I tend to like backups. But let’s give someone else the opportunity to pick one up too πŸ™‚

I almost got the Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner in Undercurrent as well, which I’d also fallen for as soon as I saw it in Shannon‘s MAC haul. But the lady at the counter assured me that the Pearlglide pencils will be part of the permanent collection. She also somewhat discouraged me by telling me that they do slide around somewhat because they’re so smooth. *sigh* It may not be an option for me after all. We’ll see.

I also mentioned my eye makeup problem to the MAC counter lady, who then suggested I try MAC’s Paint Pots. Except then she proceeded to give me a sample of the Paint instead, in Bare Canvas. She said that the Paint Pots last about 8 hours, while the Paints last 12 hours. I was to use it as a primer underneath whatever shadows I normally use. Or if I choose to, wear another primer underneath it as well. I also liked the look of one of the Paint Pots, I think it was called Bare Study – it was beige with shimmer in it. I was very surprised to get a sample anyway, I didn’t know they did that at MAC. She was also very nice, which was also pleasantly surprising, as I’ve always found in-store MAC staff to be brusque and intimidating. I’m excited to see how it works compared to all the primers I already own.

Then followed dinner at Applebee’s! I think this is an American thing – I’d never encountered an Applebee’s in Canada until last year. And this is only my second time dining here. I split the appetizer and dessert with angelandthings, but we still had half our main courses to take home with us.

Spinach and artichoke dip – a classic we always love – although this one tasted a bit too healthy for my liking πŸ˜›

Chocolate chip cookie sundae – look at the amount of whipped cream on this thing!

I also really liked Applebee’s Strawberry Limeade, made with fresh-squeezed lime juice and lemon-lime soda. Yum! What a satisfying trip to the mall πŸ™‚

  1. Goodness it looks like you had a wonderful day! Everything looks yummy!

  2. Wow! Let me know how the fluidline works out for you. I’ve been thinking of picking one up.

    • I definitely will πŸ™‚ MAC’s Fluidline has always been loved by many, though. There are always debates about Fluidline vs Bobbi Brown’s gel liner. They’re probably all pretty high quality. And you can return MAC products if you don’t like them, too. Hassle-free trial πŸ™‚

  3. Oh yay you got Added Goodness! Let me know how it works for you! On me it doesn’t move AT ALL till I remove it, so I hope you’ll have good luck!

And the food looks so yum! It’s annoying to be tempted at 8AM!

  4. I love added goodness. I’ve been using that a lot. Hope you like it!

Now I’m hungry! My stomach just growled.

  5. How’s the mac fluidliner?
I’m using the maybelline one and I love it!

    • I just put it on a few hours ago – so far it’s wearing pretty well πŸ™‚ I love Maybelline’s Studio Gel Liners, too! I have Eggplant, Charcoal, and Forest haha. And I love the eyeliner brush it comes with πŸ˜›

      • Yes i love the brush but how do you maintain it? I wash it after every time I use it but I feel like it gets stiffer!

        withloveshmon.wordpress.com

      • It’s originally quite a stiff brush to begin with but still with a soft tip – which is what I love about it. It makes it easy to control the liner so you don’t draw too thick of a line, or run astray and draw a squiggly line (I do this a lot with angled liner brushes LOL).

I usually wipe off the excess product on all my brushes on a square of tissue paper. I also clean my brushes by mixing one part extra virgin olive oil and one part antibacterial soap (I use Dawn dish detergent, you can use shampoo) in a small dish. Then move brushes back and forth in the dish, and then on my palm under running water to rinse. With eyeliner brushes you’ll notice the colour less, but with eyeshadow/face brushes, the EVOO/soap gets pretty coloured with whatever product you last used.

        Was that confusing?

  6. Oh my goodness, your MAC cherry is gone – YAY! I actually have the Bare Study Paint Pot and really like it. Sometimes when I’m feeling too lazy for eyeshadow, I throw that on all over my lids and just finish with eyeliner and mascara. Because of the slight sparkle, it looks nicer than eyeliner on it’s own.

  7. You need to dish later on whether or not the Revlon lipbutter is moisturizing! I have sensitive skin (fair with freckles!) and lipsticks often dry-out my lips….but I love wearing lip color! I’m still looking for a good over-the-counter brand. Maybe this is it! And ps, your blog is adorable!

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ I will definitely be either ranting or raving about the lip butter soon – I’d like to venture into the world of lip colour as well but I also have very dry flaky lips and sensitive skin 😦
