Banishing post-Titanic puffy eyes

Firstly, I have been sorely missing out on blogging and reading blogs. Despite how ridiculously overloaded I am, I end each day lamenting about my lack of blogging :( I just had to squeeze in this quick post, as I don’t know when I’ll have time to make another for the next few days as well.

Now. I know I’m a little late to the party. Okay, a lot late – 15 years late. But as 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the tragedy of Titanic with a re-introduction into the theatres of the movie in 3D, I was reminded of the fact that I still hadn’t yet watched Titanic at all. I was never privy to the quotes and quips my classmates made from the movie – a decade ago.

Well, at long last, I finally watched the movie a few days ago for the first time. And I bawled hysterically. I need me a Jack Dawson.

Jack as he watches Rose descend in a life boat, assuring her that he will be fine whilst she is borne to relative safety.

FOTD and mini shopping spree!

So I thought I’d try out the Mai Couture lip gloss I received in my April Glymm Box as well as a makeup look for my date this weekend ;)

Blush: theBalm and PANDORA’S Makeup Box swatch and comparison

I’ve always thought that having one blush was good enough – when you find the perfect colour for your complexion, you shouldn’t need another, right? It would just look weird… right? Here are the two blushes I own and have tried: theBalm’s Hot Mama! and PANDORA’S Makeup Box blush in St. Tropez.

Natural lip colours: Clinique, NARS, and Smashbox swatch and comparison

There have been requests for swatches of the NARS and Smashbox lipsticks that I’d bought on my Sephora VIB hauls on Thursday and also last week, so I figured I may as well compare them both. I had been looking for a “my lips but better” lipstick shade (inspired by Sunny), as I had never purchased lipsticks before and I figured I should probably start with baby steps. And of course, it’s never out of style to look yourself (but better)!

I also wanted to compare the new purchases with my usual go-to natural-looking Clinique lipstick, which my mother had given me.

Sephora VIB haul round 2

I went to Sephora again yesterday with angelandthings to haul some more goodies! This one was definitely not as large as the one I’d made last week – not for lack of trying, though. I very honestly just ran out of “immediate wants” :P And I suppose, immediate cash, too…

FOTD and NOTD: trying out a look for my presentation

Short post today: the makeup I tried out for dinner over the weekend in order to see if it’ll work for my presentation. I’ve never done these types of posts, but I think the pictures will speak for themselves.

My biggest Sephora VIB haul. Ever.

Today is just not my day. I woke up too early and lacking sleep on a Saturday morning from a bad dream; realized that despite having gone to Loblaws a mere 3 days ago, I’d forgotten to buy eggs; and upon going to the grocery store yet again, had a bus cancelled on me, making me wait an hour outside in the cold.

So. I am going to revel in the Sephora VIB haul I made on Thursday. Except now that I’m going through my pictures, my haul seems abysmally small considering the amount of money I’d spent…

Sephora had a VIB event (which I’d mentioned here) where VIB’s and a friend got 15% off as well as a Sephora umbrella and a bag of samples. If you missed it, don’t worry too much, as VIB’s will still have 15% off until April 6th.

Here’s what I’d intended to purchase on my way to Sephora:

3/4″ FITI Babii Nano-Ceramic Tourmaline Styling Iron Review

I got this straightener for $1 CAD when I ordered my Clarisonic Mia 2 on Fabove.ca last month. (Yes, you read that right. $1.00 CAD!) The offer is still on now, if you’re looking to get a Clarisonic.

I’d left this FITI iron at Dark’s place because I already had my Solia hair straightener (featured here) at home, and it’s always nice to have a straightener for those bad hair day emergencies.

LUSH haul, NARS sample, and… I need fashion advice!

I am a LUSH virgin. Ever since I first came across this store way back in grade school, I’ve always had an aversion to it. The intermingling smells were overwhelming, and all the slabs of soap in the windows looked like… food. Or rather, mouldy cake. Learning that everything was freshly handmade with no preservatives made my presumptions worse – if the stuff is made out of food, doesn’t that mean it will mould even faster?

Inspired by angelandthings‘ review on Buffy, I decided to check out the LUSH website for myself. I’ll admit, some of their stuff was intriguing. In particular, the fresh face masks had me lusting to get my hands on them, especially since I have sensitive skin and their products claim to be good for sensitivity, due to their lack of preservatives.

Valentine’s Day alone? No problem!

My guilty pleasure.

No, really!

I spent the entire today in class and in lab, with my beau in another city. I’d honestly forgotten that it was Valentine’s Day until I got a text from Dark. I spent my day having to interact with people I really didn’t want to interact with. You know those people in a position of authority who like to just bring down the spirits of everyone else in the room, just because they can.

But Valentine’s Day can be spent showing yourself some love, whether you have a partner or not, or if you’re separated from them. Why not take advantage of a day to pamper yourself?

Knowing I’d be spending a rough day today, I started my Valentine’s Day last night with a nice bubble bath – the perfect way to relax and unwind on a cold winter’s day!
